Ponte Vecchio, viewed from the Ponte Santa Trinita is the oldest surviving bridge in Florence.  It was built in 1345, the last in a succession of bridges and fords on the site that dated back to Roman times.  Its picturesque shops were originally the domain of blacksmiths, butchers, and tanners.

Original Perseus in the Palazzo Vecchio is a bronze statue by Cellini (1554).  Perseus has beheaded Medusa and was intended to warn Cosimo I's enemies of their probable fate.
