Jr.
Vocal Scholarship
The scholarship
is available by audition process for 9th - 12th graders who reside in Lexington
County. The scholarship
is in the amount of $1,000.00 which can be equally divided among the winners.
The scholarship is intended for use for private vocal instruction and college
preparatory literature. The scholarship is designed basically to
help better prepare the awarded students for college vocal scholarship
auditions which they will be involved in during their senior year.
Adjudication
is by an impartial member(s) of NATS (National Association of Teachers
of Singing), who reside
outside of Lexington County. Scholarship
auditions should be based on vocal talent and financial need as established

Sylvia E.
Looney
Piano Scholarship
Sylvia Elkins Looney has had an active performance career as pianist
and organist for over 40 years. She is a graduate of Newberry College
and received scholarship offers to attend New York’s renowned
Julliard School of Music. She currently is the organist at St. Stephen’s
Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC, a position that she has held for
over 35 years. She was the primary accompanist for the Lexington
County Choral Society for our first six seasons.
The Sylvia E. Looney piano scholarship was established in 2003 by
the LCCS. It is designed to help encourage aspiring young pianists
in the field of choral accompanying. This scholarship is given at
the discretion of the Lexington County Choral Society conductor.
Those students wishing to be considered for this scholarship need
to contact the conductor directly to arrange for a personal audition.
Expectations are a good facility with all aspects of keyboard accompanying
including sight reading and open score choral reading.

Benjamin has had the opportunity to play in public for several years now. He plays often at Lexington Presbyterian Church and has been a guest pianist at other churches and coffee houses. Benjamin is now the pianist in the Lexington Presbyterian Church youth band. He has also studied organ. Benjamin has recently returned from a mission’s trip to Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and would like to go back next summer to continue the work of spreading the gospel to the Mexican people.
